A community-made solution for Skull Cavern
The Skull Cavern Elevator is a mod designed to make Skull Cavern exploration less frustrating while keeping the sense of progression. In the base game, every trip starts at floor one, meaning players spend a lot of time retracing old ground before they can reach the levels that matter. This mod changes that by adding an elevator system like the one in the regular mines.
How it works
After installing the mod, an elevator appears inside the Skull Cavern at regular intervals, and by default, they show up every five floors. They only become available after you have physically reached those floors, so you still need to work your way down the first time. There is no special quest, crafting requirement, or in-game unlock process. The elevators simply work as soon as the mod is active, but you control how easy or challenging they are through the configuration options.
Customization and settings
The mod gives players a lot of flexibility through its configuration file. Two main settings control how the system behaves: elevator spacing and difficulty. The spacing is handled by a setting called elevatorStep, which determines how far apart the elevators are placed. For example, if the elevatorStep is set to five, and your deepest level so far is 40, you can find elevators on floors 5, 10, 15, and so on up to 40. If you change the setting to 10, then only floors 10, 20, 30, and so on have the elevators.
The second key setting is difficulty, which decides how many elevators stay available as you progress. This is calculated by dividing your deepest floor by the difficulty value. For instance, if your difficulty is set to two and your deepest level is 40, you only have elevators up to floor 20 because 40 divided by two is 20. That means only the elevators at 5, 10, 15, and 20 will be active. A higher difficulty value makes things tougher because you need to push deeper to unlock more elevators.
A must-have mod
The Skull Cavern Elevator makes repeat trips far less tedious by removing the need to start at the top every single time. You still must earn your progress the first time by making it down to new levels, but once you’ve done that, you can begin future runs from a deeper point. For players hunting for iridium, completing challenges, or simply exploring without wasting an entire in-game day, this mod strikes a perfect balance between convenience and fairness.
